If you’ve ever been in a room full of coaches, you would agree that we are a special kind. We see world differently that most people changing the world around us where ever we go. Can you imagine if coaches actually ruled the world? How would it be different today? How would it affect our laws, health, society, relationships, education, entertainment, parenting, families, and other areas of our lives?

Hello Milana,
That’s a wonderfully provactive and thought expanding question.
For indeed, coaches rule the world!
From the minute we are born to the end of days we are either coaching or being coached.
Now of course, most of prefer to be the one doing the coaching.
It has been said that there is nothing freer than advise.
Anyway, none of us can escape coaching, it is the quality of coaching that is important.
Elegant coaching is empowering and allows the “coachee” to adopt the efficacy of what is being imparted by the coach as a natural growth progression of his/her life objectives.
Thanks for the invitation to add my two cents Milana!
Regards,
Yvonne Finn
If coaches ruled the world, the world would find value and significance in laying aside divergance, and working toward comon goals such as alleviating poverty and promoting world peace.
Wonderful question! What if us coaches stepped up more to truth, thus accelerating growth and possibility for our clients and ourselves. Truth (with wisdom) sets you FREE! http://outskirtspress.com/webpage.php?ISBN=9781432737313
Love your passion Milana!

Hi Milana,
Great question!
I love the saying, “you teach what you need to learn”. So if coaches ruled the world we’d have awakening leaders who are working on their own stuff and sharing with others how to do the same. (Instead of those who hold on to their stuff and make the rest of us carry the burden of it). Humans could then grow in a positive direction and have a positive impact on the earth and each other.
Hmm- what a concept!
Thanks for your thought-provoking question. I had fun answering it!

Hi Milana,
What a fun question! Here’s how the world would be different -
1 – Everyone would feel empowered with the knowledge and tools to achieve their goals.
2 – Presidential elections would take place via Twitter and Facebook and everyone would have access to the total vote count
2A – Facebook would eliminate the cap on how many friends you can have
3 – Healthcare plans would come with a bonus CD and opt-in to a health coaching program to provide ongoing, life-long, optimum health
4 – Democrat and Republican candidates would mount their political platforms on YouTube, using either a Webcam so we can see their home in the background, or a Canon camera and “keep it real” and bond with humanity.
5 – Jay Leno and other talk-show hosts, and stand-up comedians would lead classes on Motivation Through Comedy. The live 3-day seminar would cost $475,000, but the home study course would only cost $297!
6 – The telecom companies would make a fortune because everyone would be on the phone, no less than 4 hours a day, either giving a self-improvement or business seminar, or participating in one.
7 – Coaching would be on the education curriculum from the 10th grade, and colleges would offer it as a degree program
8 – Spouses would no longer be able to cheat on their partners because whomever they approached would insist on giving them coaching to work things out with their partner
9 – We’d be so self-motivated and empowered that it would propulgate a world of intuitive understanding, and we’d probably all be able to fly or have whatever super power we’d always wanted.
10 – Proceeds from aforementioned 3-day seminars with Jay Leno et. al. and the healthcare lifestyle program would be used to save the environment and animals
11 – we’d measure success in terms of friends and followers instead of cash
12 – we’d propulgate so much caring in the world that people would treat one another with respect, their needs would be met, and we’d be able to resolve our differences with coaching instead of lawyers
13 – the worldwide slogan would be, “Whatever problem you have, there’s a workshop for it”
If coaches ruled the world, the world would be more intense (and more intensely fulfilling), and yet more relaxed and forgiving. If we ran the world, could we get the trains to run on time?
If coaches ruled the world people would be encouraged to support one another for the greater good of all. They would be encouraged to find work that had meaning for them and was from their heart. Parents would encourage their children to follow their passions in life and think twice before choosing words which demoralize and limit their own and their children’s futures. People would be encouraged to embrace their differences and use them as a strength instead of a weakness. Wars would be fought between individuals, not countries, with words of understanding and compromise. Accepting that it’s O.K. to disagree and still get along.
If coaches ruled the world calmer heads would prevail and governments would not be allowed to oppress it’s citizens or over-step its authority to bring others under control. The people would be encouraged to share responsibilty for themselves and others as a community and to look for help from one another rather than big brother. Self sufficiency would be it’s own reward and all would become enlighten to the power of determination and persistence. That standing on your own and making your way in the world, allowing others to live and let live and thoughts of positivity are the way to success. If coaches ruled the world people would be taught to believe in themselves.
If coaches ruled the world … hmmmm. Well, if coaches actually RULED the world, I doubt there would be any more wars. As coaches we’re trained to listen to the whole story, hear all sides equally, find balance and peaceful resolution to conflict of all kinds. So I think the RULE would be that there could not be any more fighting!!! YEA!!!
Here’s to a world of peace. Let’s RULE!
“World peace” might actually be possible. People would take responsibility for their actions. People who are different from each other would co-exist with harmony and respect. Problems and conflict would be addressed in a non-violent manner. Mother Earth would feel loved and cared for. People would balance work with equal parts play and rest. Children would grow up with self-dignity and self-respect. The world would be a happier, more joyful place.
Thanks for the thought provoking question, Milana.
Of course the question then becomes, how do we incorporate elements of this into our lives starting t-o-d-a-y?
If coaches ruled the world it would mean there would be a sage in every family and no clients for coaches to coach. The world would listen to the family culture, make a decision have support and move forward.
Presently only the people who are slick enough to convince others that they need a coach or need to become a coach will make money from being a coach or a coach trainer. Anyone who thinks they need a coach should turn to a best friend and confide without interruption and solve the problem. If they haven’t a friend then they need a counsellor and some therapy.
Hi Milana.
Wow. If coaches ruled the world, I think the world would be completely different. People would be healthy, vibrant, successful, and complete. I think families would enjoy one another, entrtainment would focus on helping people grow, and we would be a community where people supported one another.
Thanks!
Danielle
Imagine that we could help the rest of the world to learn to love themselves, and by doing so, be loving and caring of others. Only when we can fully accept ourselves and who we are, can we do the same with others. Imagine the peace, joy & harmony this could bring to all.
Hi Milana! What a fantastic and thought-provoking question. If coaches ruled the world everyone would be striving to be the best they could possibly be. There would be an increase in harmony and positivity. The order of the day would be support, encouragement and big-picture thinking. I think that people would more readily own their faults, fears and personal challenges because coaches would make it more acceptable to do so. Owning these truths would enable people to work through and move beyond them. Society as a whole would grow to become healthier and more consciously evolved.
Paints a pretty picture, doesn’t it? Here’s to our world domination!
Hmm….if coaches ruled the world…people would really live. Life would be, not about survival, because if coaches ruled I think we’d make sure everyone had a comfortable level of living and survival so that they could focus on greater things – self actualization, reaching one’s greatest potential, etc. And, this wouldn’t be all ‘navel gazing’ although perhaps some of the greatest advances in the sciences, arts, technology, industry, etc., would result from allowing people time to reflect more, grow more, develop greater compassion and understanding, etc.
If Coaches Ruled the World:
People only learn and change their lives, their patterns and habits, if and when they choose to. Sometimes it’s only when “rock bottom” is actualized that they choose a different path; pain being a great motivator and pleasure being less of one. So what about all of the people who decide to fail and be miserable? (Yes; some people really do want to complain, blame others and be angry.) Watching the “world” get “better” and more “enlightened” may just make these people more envious, resentful and dissatisfied.
Publishing and editing a positive lifestyle magazine for women has me wondering where all of this negativity is coming from! In it’s entirety I believe it has great undertones and would produce some amazing companies and leaders. It’s all about working at an individual level one motivated person at a time to build great things in the world. It would be quite empowering. One person really can make a difference. A whole bunch of differences? Something to relish and savour.
Fun question Milana – I just had to stop and comment. When I think of ruling the world I think of Mothers, they certainly have as much power as a ruler. A Mother certainly has the future in her hands. If she were a coach there would less arguments because there would be listening and there would be less teen pregnancy because there would be more communication. Without going into more details I will just overall say that her impact and how she teaches/coaches her children will have a world impact. A huge change would be the families in general where you would see smiles replace frowns and happiness would abound, that is for sure!
If coaches ruled the world the right questions would get asked and the right answers would be found (received). In such a world where cause and effect are rightly understood there would be a quantum leap in all segments of society. It would revolutionize every discipline/field of human interest. We would in effect create a whole new world–with the power to change anything.
No longer would the vast majority of people take their dreams into their graves, because they would, with the encouragement and inspiration of coaches, live them out while they still had breath.
If coaches ruled the world, we all would experience true integrity — wholeness and harmony — in that every living creature would be contributing his/her/its unique gifts thereby fulfilling every need, and likewise being fulfilled, without struggle, for successful operation of our “spaceship Earth” as an ecosystem fully integrated with the divine universe.
Yes, I think the philosophy and practice of coaching is THAT powerful.
Cheers, Dolly
Wow! I just had to participate in this marvelous group of contributors.
Allow me to take a different tack… Coaches would never rule the world because they’d be busy empowering others. Coaches want you to know who you are and do what you are. They encourage every individual to live from the solid foundation of truth about self, and to bloom in confidence and fulfilling, self-expressing activity. Each person recognizes their powers and limitations, and therefore is more than tolerant of others.
Each one invites others to self-revelation and empowers perfect self-expression in creative activity. Feeling fulfilled, every person realizes an abundant life and shares the rest. Since every person gives to more than one person, everyone has more than they need. One learns to trust another, and a caring community is built to span the world.
Since less energy is spent on ego, more creative energy is available to each person. Everyone learns better and faster, and we solve all the world’s problems, turning it into a paradise garden; then build glorious interstellar habitats, and navigate the stars!
Together, coaches can be the catalyst to create this. It is within our vision, and will come within our ability, and finally within our reach. The seeds are sprouting! Which part do you want to play in destiny?!
Interesting question. I don’t think my answer is the kind of answer you are looking for but here it is anyway. Food for thought from a different perspective.
Honestly I don’t think the world would change much at all if Coaches ruled the world. The world does not need any more rules or rulers. We already have enough of that, and it’s not working. If it was, there wouldn’t be a need for coaches. What this world needs is systems designed to promote life and keep the energy flowing. Rules choke energy and promote resistence, defiance, rebellion, and opposition which leads to war in all its forms.
Rules also require a lot of enforcement from the rulers. Is this really what you want? to take over and control the world? To what end? That is not coaching at all. We would have to decide which Coaches rules were the “right” rules to follow. Deciding which are the right rules requires judgments based on beliefs and there are as many of those as there are people.
REAL Coaches do not buy into “right/wrong, good or bad” and they do not have agendas. Ruling the world is a HUGE agenda and would require deciding what is right/wrong etc. Ruling the world requires many judgments and some very strong opinions about what is “right”. Who among us would be elected to decide the “right” rules?
REAL coaches to not tell people what to do but, in ruling them we would have to.
REAL Coaches do not judge. Saying you want to rule the world is a HUGE judgment that there is something “wrong” with the world that we Coaches, are the only ones capable of “fixing”. By the way REAL coaches do not diagnose or fix problems either.
REAL Coaches remain open to outcome. Ruling the world would require controlling and manipulating outcome.
This kind of same old same old thinking is a recipe for more of the same old same old results. Coaches will never be able to help solve the problems of the world this way.
Anyone who would want to go to a coach, who wants to rule the world, is not a coachable person – a victim looking for a saviour, yes. Any coach that would want to rule the world, is not a True Coach – a dictator looking to play saviour, yes.
I honestly think the world is ready for something different.
Coaches Ruling The World
Imagine waking up with your passion pursued and dreams full filled, Investments instead of expenses, action instead of procrastination, a world of educated individuals who have the knowledge and experience and a clear focus on life. Fathers supporting Mothers and mothers giving birth to the next generation of elevated children.
Jobs would be endless opportunities and possibilities, Joint ventures would replace the word for family, College education would be more than a book knowledge receipt but hands on training and implementation for Empire building.
The difference from today’s world and a coaches world would be a world of creativity, people would no longer operate out of fear but would be clear on their purpose.
Our laws would reflect crime against distraction and crime against limited knowledge.
If we all operated at our highest and best, we would know who we are and can begin to demystify our peers. Each one teach…and that is what a Coach does and a world full of them would be high quality leaders and Presidents. The World would now be known as The Blueprint.
Then people all over would trust one another
Not advising but reaching out for the other
Strangers would be welcome wherever they went
And we would know what true brotherhood meant
It would be a wonderful, wonderful world.
Yes it would be a wonderful world.
Hi Ebe,
So many amazing responses and I’ll be reviewing them closer next week! But I had to comment on yours – wow! What a beautiful way to steal my heart with a poem!
Milana
Tough group to follow, since I agree with many of the responses but here are a few more for “what if coaches ruled the world?”:
1. As coaches – we first clearly define the problem, know what the goal is and then creatively identify the steps needed to take to achieve the desired outcome…but we are flexible enough and know that once you start the journey, other things may come up that change either the steps, course or goal. If coaches ruled – we could create an enviroment and leaders who did these ’steps’ and thus so much more would be accomplished to benefit all human beings and this earth.
2. As coaches we are non-judgemental – imagine a world like that?
3. Coaches believe in flexibility – imagine a world like that?
4. Coaches LISTEN – listening seems to be a lost art, if coaches ruled…a lot more listening would occur and that would change so much.
5. Coaches know that you have to continue to learn to grow. If coaches ruled and everyone did this too – imagine what could be accomplished.
6. A good coach knows when to get help from a different expert, or ask for help – imagine leaders actually no thinking they know everything and actually seeking out qualified resources from everywhere and not just who owes them from campaigning!
7. A good coach know when to say ‘I don’t know’ – wouldn’t that be novel in the world’s leadership?
8. Coaches understand people – the good and bad, they have to have business skills, they have analytic skills, they are good at problem solving and great at bringing out the innate abilities and best traits of people – that equals outstanding leaderhsip. They know when to lead, when to partner and when to follow.
9. The downside of coaches ruling the world could be, not able to effectively deal with those individuals who do not want a better world and will do anything to destroy it and those in it. Would need coaches who have the kind of strength and experience to find new and effective ways to deal these types of elements in the population. Still an improvement over current methodologies used.
10. Fewer people not paying child support, better eduation, better care for children, better working conditions, more jobs, less violence, more personal growth and happiness of each individual, better family values, improved health care and more natural preventive health care, probably less government and less desisions made by government, people would have more input into how the country/state/town were run and it was taken seriously, decisions made more timely and thought out, and so much more.
11. Last but very far from least….the idea of giving back, gratitude and mindfullness perpetuated and increased which would greatly change the direction the world is currently going and with these a part of daily living focus, the world would change.
Milana, thank so much for asking the question, ‘if coaches ruled the worldd’ because by thinking about it and commenting, it created more positive energy for me today. thank,
tonia – the practical expert
Thanks Milana,
It is almost bedtime, else I would have responded with “You have made my day”
Ebe
Dearest Milana;
Leave it to you to come up with such a creative and provocative question to energize and engage everyone. Here is my humble response:
If coaches ruled the world: values would guide the big agenda, authenticity and accountability would prevail, life’s process would be fulfilling and in balance and the little agendas would allow for Open Minds, Reaching.
Sorry to say, Milana, nothing would change if coaches ruled the world. Why? Because the very concept of ‘ruling the world’ is a start in the wrong direction. Rules, and the thinking that makes them appear necessary, are at the root of many problems worldwide.
Coaches are a wonderful group of people, no doubt, but the problem is they’re still just people with all the human foibles people have. True, they have greater insight oftentimes into the basis and outcome of things but it’s still filtered through the human brain in reference to prior experiences.
What’s needed is a society that functions as though people were respected instead of controlled. If the unwritten rules of society functioned in the best interests of people collectively and individually the controllers and rulers wouldn’t be needed.
Part of the problem with society is that we hide behind rules instead of adjusting expectations to the reality. An example is teen pregnancies. If the expectations were that raging hormones of youth are a fact, if we accepted that fact and provided for safe outlets that were accepted by all, the problem would largely disappear. The idea of the innocent little darlings until they are married is just that…an idea. The reality is something far, far different.
If we accepted the fact that people need challenges/outlets to make them feel alive and vital, then we could provide appropriate outlets for these drives instead of letting them build up to explosive levels that usually hurt innocent others as well as the individual. As it is we try to divert these drives by suppressing or channeling them into totally unsatisfactory substitute activities. Better we accept, appreciate, and provide opportunities for expression where it will not adversely affect others. We’re like ostriches with our heads in the sand. There’s something to be said for the Star Trek-like idea of altered reality play rooms for recreation.
The quest for power/rulers is an out-dated concept that needs to die an over-due death. In it’s place we need to encourage responsibility individually and collectively. When one is hurt, it hurts all. When one succeeds, it is a success for all in the sense that all will benefit in some way directly or indirectly.
Coaches, as wonderful as they are, are a means to an end…not the end. We need to keep the ultimate goal in mind and not be seduced by the thinking of the masses and the existence of the status quo. No, nothing much would change if coaches ruled the world but they could be a means to an end that would free all people to live, love, and enjoy life.
If coaches ran the world, people would feel supported, and the world would feel like a safer, closer place to be.
Instead of living in reaction to the “don’t wants”, “shoulds”, and perceived “needs” that we vulnerable, ego-driven humans experience, we would be trained from a young age toward an awareness of what we truly want out of our lives, relationships, choices and interactions. This would lead automatically to a transformed human community and a transformed world – one that is connected, purpose-driven, empowered, conscious, contributory, alive and free.
That would be pretty cool!

If Coaches ruled the world,
everyday,
everywhere,
there would be ticker tape parades,
celebrating,
the true champions
that we are.
If coaches ruled the world, there would be more accountability. People would take personal responsibility for their results and for their lives. There would be much less blaming in the world. People would know that they had the power to create the lives they desire. Not as many people would make excuses. People wouldn’t be blaming the economy for their lack of progress. Also, people would make the world a better place energetically by following their passions. By following your passion, you are more heart-centered, loivng life. When you love life, you love others more. This increased love could bring about world peace since peace begins with the individual. By focusing on your passion and purpose, there is less focus on material gain. Happiness is the result. Happiness, love, and peace are the forces that can heal and change the world. This is what coaches help to facilitate. We help to bring out clients’ inner joy, passion, and love. They do the work–we just help them unleash the good already inside. Thanks for reading my entry
As a child psychologist who provides coaching rather than “therapy,” I’d love to see all the parents and teachers of the world trained to be coaches.
If coaches were in charge, children would see their potential, rather than their problems.
Parents would say, “How can we solve this problem?” Rather than,
“What is wrong with you?”
“How come you made this mistake?”
“Go to your room!”
“You’re grounded!”
Adults would celebrate and encourage children’s creativity and joy in discovery rather than say,
“Why did you make a mess?”
“Follow the directions.”
“Be quiet!”
“Stop jumping, running, singing, twirling, and making so much noise!”
Teachers would take into account every child’s learning style and teach flexibly with empathy and encouragement, rather than asking children to learn one way and get graded on the outcome.
Coloring outside the lines would be cool. Mixing colors would be even better because kids will be encouraged to experiment to find out what happens when you try something new.
Children would be taught that dreams have value, hard work pays off, being different and unique can make you successful and self-fulfilled.
Imagine a world where our children get the message that they can make positive change, grow to fulfil their potential, and feel good about themselves?
Those children will become our future leaders, politicians, doctors, lawyers, police and firefighters, scientists, engineers. They will rule the world from a place of positive power and energy. They will discover new and innovative ways to help humanity in their communities and around the world because we teach them they CAN and that it is all POSSIBLE.
Milana interesting question. Here’s something to think about.
Coaches can’t rule the world because ruling means power over others. Coaches don’t exert power over others. But what if coaching principles were what we lived by? Then we would all look at our life as a journey. Consciously enjoying the gift of free will. Making intentional choices that allow us to experience life to the fullest. All the while, friends, colleagues and associates would support our decisions and allow us to experience without guilt, excuses or blame.
We could freely let go of experiences that don’t serve us and know the value of living in the moment. We could stop fighting like something is trying to get out of us. We would experience self care at the very fiber of our being. The world may be the same but how we experience it would be different.
And isn’t that what counts?
As many have said, we don’t need more rulers, imposing their idea of what’s best for us.
Even if these rulers rise from the world of coaching.
Some people see coaches as just another collection of self-proclaimed experts.
Each coach seems eager to reshape the world according to her own theories and experience, ignoring the unique voice and talents of the ones who she advises.
And sometimes we fall into that spinning, seductive place.
But what if COACHING ruled the world?
What if the bright spirit that shines within coaching was the rule, the principle at the heart of our relationships, our learning, our speech, our hopes, our dreams, and our vision for the future?
Can you see that world?
It’s full of color, and sweet music.
It’s full of play.
And we shape the world with a light, loving touch.
We are wildly successful in that world.
Our days there are full of learning about ourselves and others.
We are motivated by something larger than success or honor or a moment of satisfaction.
We are hungry for joy.
And our eyes are sharp and bright.
Filled with a sight that sees the greatness in ourselves and others.
We see what is, and what can be.
The bright eyes of children.
And the endless worlds of possibility they carry.
Are not extinguished as they grow, by apathy, sadness, and fear.
The children look at the bright eyes of the adults around them.
And hear everyday, in school, and on the streets, words of possibility and greatness.
And see patience and love.
laws, health, society, relationships, education, entertainment, parenting, families, and other areas of our lives—–YES a ruler/a leader who founded a nation state affects all of these realms.
I know a ruler who was a coach at the same time.
So Milana’s question is not a triggering wishful thinking.
It happened once and why not again and in quite immense numbers now at this turning point of our civilization?
If you ask: WHO IS HE?
This is something to start with:)
Wish you a good journey on your quest
ps: useful tip for the answer/ The foundation of Turkish Republic / History back to the start of 20th century can be expolored to find out the name of the ‘leader coach’
I don’t want coaches to “rule” the world. No. Only God (the divine, ground-of-being, ultimate, etc.) is to take center stage in the affairs of human beings. This is an important distinction to make, I think. One challenge our industry faces right now (in my humble opinion) is the tendency of coaches to rely too much on the humanistic philosophy roots connected to the practice of coaching. Don’t get me wrong, the practice of coaching benefits greatly from Humanism (the attitude that makes man the measure of his own spiritual life). However, 21st century coaches need to discover more effective ways to encourage their clients to transcend the limits of human experience-that of seeing and relating to self and the world only through one’s 5-physical senses.
The number one underlying problem EVERY coach must help their client solve is how to lead them to discover their own divine inheritance. This is the essence of life-transformation; the goal of all coaching.
If coaches ruled the world we’ all awake filled with gratitude and end the day satisfied in the journey. We’d discover the many paths available to reach the destination we’d previously thought of as a fantasy only. We’d all love ourselves and seek the joy in loving others. We’d open doors with the expectation of pleasure in the new trip. Our institutions would be guided by questions designed to pull out the best inherent in each one. Seeds of questions would be planted throughout the world and forests filled with self-awareness, possibility, and mastery would result in gentle breezes and fragrance. We’d enjoy a hug from someone who celebrates us daily and give a hug of support to another. We’d know that vacations, massage and laughter are the necessities that make us truly productive. We’d all get to do the work we love and at which we excel. At 3 p.m. we’d all sit down to a glass of cold milk and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (or whatever else delights your senses and refreshes your reserves).
