Some people see coaches as just another collection of self-proclaimed experts.
Each coach seems eager to reshape the world according to her own theories and experience, ignoring the unique voice and talents of the ones who she advises.

And sometimes we fall into that spinning, seductive place.

And our eyes are sharp and bright.
Filled with a sight that sees the greatness in ourselves and others.

We see what is, and what can be.

The bright eyes of children.
And the endless worlds of possibility they carry.
Are not extinguished as they grow, by apathy, sadness, and fear.

The children look at the bright eyes of the adults around them.
And hear everyday, in school, and on the streets, words of possibility and greatness.

And see patience and love.

If coaches were in charge, children would see their potential, rather than their problems.

Parents would say, “How can we solve this problem?” Rather than,
“What is wrong with you?”
“How come you made this mistake?”
“Go to your room!”
“You’re grounded!”

Adults would celebrate and encourage children’s creativity and joy in discovery rather than say,
“Why did you make a mess?”
“Follow the directions.”
“Be quiet!”
“Stop jumping, running, singing, twirling, and making so much noise!”

Teachers would take into account every child’s learning style and teach flexibly with empathy and encouragement, rather than asking children to learn one way and get graded on the outcome.

Coloring outside the lines would be cool. Mixing colors would be even better because kids will be encouraged to experiment to find out what happens when you try something new.

Children would be taught that dreams have value, hard work pays off, being different and unique can make you successful and self-fulfilled.

Imagine a world where our children get the message that they can make positive change, grow to fulfil their potential, and feel good about themselves?

Those children will become our future leaders, politicians, doctors, lawyers, police and firefighters, scientists, engineers. They will rule the world from a place of positive power and energy. They will discover new and innovative ways to help humanity in their communities and around the world because we teach them they CAN and that it is all POSSIBLE.
